About Egypt
Egypt is a country in northeastern Africa that is famous the world over for its ancient history. Modern Egypt is a colorful, busy place. Most Egyptians these days are Muslim, with only about fifteen percent of the population identifying as Christians. Although Egypt’s economy is based on foreign tourism and Egyptians are used to foreigners, it is best to dress modestly to avoid unwanted attention.
Egyptians are generally a very warm and friendly people and will often go out of their way to assist you. If someone provides you with a service, be sure to give them a small tip (called “baksheesh”), and don’t be surprised if someone asks you for one, as this is the way many people make a living in this country.
